Marine Lance Cpl. Kevin E. Westling of Vernon deployed on Nov. 1 to Helmand, Afghanistan with the 3rd Battalion. His family wrote that he signed up for the Marines when he was a junior in high school. Three days after graduation he left for boot camp. They say they can’t wait for him to come home. Army Pvt. Matthew T. Kelly, a 2009 graduate of Vernon Township High School, is stationed at Yongsan Garrison, near Seoul, South Korea, as an honor guard. He recently completed 19 weeks of Basic/Military Police training. He is a recent graduate of the 701 company F military Police Battalion, Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo.
