Lafayette has a new home

LAFAYETTE-The official opening of the new Lafayette Municipal Building took place on Saturday with a ribbon cutting ceremony conducted by township mayor Richard Hughes. During the brief ceremony Hughes thanked all those involved in the project particularly Schering-Plough, the company who donated the three acres of land on which the new building is situated and Senator Robert Littell, who was largely responsible for obtaining a $100,000 grant for the project. The 5,500-square-foot stone building at 33 Morris Farms Road was built at a cost of $1.1 million and replaces the landmark farmhouse on Route 15 which has housed the municipal offices since the 1960s. The old municipal building is being restored to its original condition. Township employees moved into the new facility at the beginning of September and the Township Committee has held several meetings which have reportedly been attended in record numbers. "This is a beautiful building and we have had so many people tell us how happy they are to see how well it turned out and are impressed by the brightness of the building, it's all been very positive feedback," said Anna Rose Fedish, municipal clerk.
