This past weekend, my wife and I were privileged to attend a Cornerstone Playhouse presentation of Cole Porter’s famous musical classic “Anything Goes.” The cast provided a wonderful and enjoyable performance displaying outstanding talent. During the intermission the Artistic Director, Scott Mason, was generous enough to ask some of the young actors to go around the audience with sailor hats to collect donations for the Sparta Ambulance Squad. As of Saturday, they had already collected over $250 and the weekend performances were only half over. These folks are a community-based organization that has entertained Sparta at the Lake Mohawk Country Club for well over 35 years. Additionally, the Cornerstone Playhouse has generously offered to put on a “Broadway Revue” on Friday, Aug. 21 at the Nicholson Pavilion in Dykstra Park, starting at 7:30 p.m. This show will feature snippets from “Anything Goes” as well as many other segments from various Broadway productions. It should be an outstanding evening at our new Nicholson Pavilion. All are welcome. On Friday, Aug. 2 at 7:30 p.m., The Franklin Orchestra, consisting of 55 musicians, will be presenting a concert at the Nicholson Pavilion as well. This group has performed throughout New Jersey and parts of New York in the past as well as our town. Both of these upcoming events represent an extension of our series to complement the newly created Nicholson Pavilion. In the future, additional venues will be added to further the availability of this great new feature in Sparta to our citizens. Enjoy! Manny Goldberg Deputy Mayor Sparta
