The Sussex Borough Council approved an $8,400 contract with CP Engineers to complete an evaluation of the borough’s water and sewer utility on March 4.

The Council also approved $1,500 for the EPA Check Up Program for Small Systems.

The two investments are intended to aid in managing the infrastructure of the Sussex Water and Sewer Utility.

First, the CP Engineers’ evaluation will help the Borough manage the utility’s assets, including age and expected lifetime, plus expenses. Officials hope the evaluation will aid the B\borough in planning for the future, with less asset emergencies.

The plan is not related to a possible Sussex Water and Sewer utility sale. This plan is just to evaluate and manage current assets.

Next, the EPA CUPSS system, an internal asset management system, requires the borough to enter data on an ongoing basis in order to generate overview reports for

projected costs of the Borough’s assets. The reports will also aid in tracking, evaluating future costs and planning for asset acquisition and repairs.
