Boys soccer team loses in H/W/S quarterfinal

The High Point Regional High School boys soccer team, seeded sixth, was eliminated from the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament in the quarterfinal round.

The Wildcats lost, 5-3, to third-seeded North Hunterdon on Friday afternoon, Oct. 13 in Annandale.

High Point had defeated 11th-seeded Wallkill Valley, 4-0, in the first round Oct. 11 at home.

In that game, Aiden Carlson had two goals, Luke Anderson added a goal and an assist, and Andrew Carlson also scored to back the eight-save performance by goalie Nohlan Wehrli.

High Point (9-4) is scheduled to play host to Sparta at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20.

Here’s how other High Point sports teams fared last week:

Girls soccer

High Point, the 15th seed, dropped a 1-0 decision to 14th-seeded Newton in the first round of the H/W/S Tournament on Oct. 9 in Newton.

Dallas Walther scored the Wildcats’ only goal off a feed from Layla Marrero. Natalia Thornton made 10 saves in defeat.

High Point owns a 5-6-1 overall record and a 5-1-1 mark in the Colonial Division of the NJAC Conference. It is in second place in the division.

Field hockey

Hanna Gardner scored twice and Stephanie Gianuzzi also found the back of the net as High Point forged a 3-3 tie with Wallkill Valley on Oct. 10 at home.

Eliana Savopoulos was outstanding, with a 15-save effort for the Wildcats (2-7-1).

Gardner now leads the team in scoring with six goals and one assist, with Gianuzzi adding four goals

High Point is scheduled to play at St. Elizabeth at 4 p.m. Oct. 20.

Girls volleyball

The Wildcats, seeded 11th for the H/W/S Tournament, are scheduled to play at sixth-seeded Pope John in a first-round match Tuesday, Oct. 17.

High Point (3-11) dropped a 25-23, 25-22 decision to Mountain Lakes on Oct. 11 at home.

The team was led by Mikayla Conklin (18 digs, three kills, two assists), Ashlyn Ritson (seven assists, five digs), Kerstin Crane (six kills), Lindsey VanOrden (four digs, three kills, one ace), Emily Morgan (two digs), Kaylee Little (10 digs), Brooke Wagner (one kill, one assist), Michelle Sondej (one dig), Kendall Strehl (one ace) and Kaitlyn Simionidis (two digs).

High Point is scheduled to play host to Pequannock on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Cross country

Matthew Tunnell finished a team-best 60th with a time of 19:28 to pace High Point at the NJAC cross country championships Oct. 10 at Greystone Park in Morris Plains.

Kyle Morsell (63rd in 19:39) and Evan Dong (89th in 21:00) round out the Wildcat harriers who placed in the top 100.

On the girls side, Faith Postma was the highest placed High Point finisher with a time of 24:47, good for 77th place. Other top 100 finishers included Emma Whitesell (82nd in 25:01), Maia Minong (88th in 25:25), Julia Sieminski (91st in 25:33) and Olivia Wagner (96th in 26:01).
