Former Sussex County Freeholder Howard Burrell announced the formal kickoff of his campaign to become the next mayor of Vernon Township. Burrell previously served Vernon as a member and president of its Board of Education, a well as a town council member, police commissioner and deputy mayor.

In a press release, Burrell said “Our town is at a crossroads, and the direction in which we choose to go in the next four years will determine if we continue to decline as a town, of if we assume our place as the largest municipality in Sussex County that is a good place to live and raise a family, and a town that’s attractive to the type of businesses that can not only bring needed help to our citizens in paying the municipal tax bill, but also provide our residents with additional needed services and conveniences”.

Vernon Township Council President Jean Murphy and Daniel J. Storey also are running for mayor in November.
