The Center for Prevention and Counseling is offering a free support group for fathers on Thursdays from 6-7 p.m. at 61 Spring Street, Newton.

Fathers with children of any age are welcome to attend to discuss a variety of topics, including the difficulty one can experience in finding enough time to spend with one’s children, feelings of being isolated and concerns about being a good dad. Parents today face a variety of different issues that the generation before them did not and being able to raise concerns and voice problems with other fathers in a comfortable and welcoming environment many times improves situations, lessens fears and encourages healthy relationship skills for everyone in a family.

This fatherhood group is being led by Jose Rosario, a bilingual certified alcohol and other drug counselor with more than 15 years of experience. Rosario also is the father of three grown sons and one daughter as well as the grandfather of five.

“I know and understand the various challenges of raising children in today’s society," Rosario said. "My family is a blend of different cultures and speaks more than one language. I am very fortunate and blessed to have healthy relationships with such beautiful and caring children.”
