Holy Counselor Lutheran Church, located at 68 Sand Hill Road in Vernon, will hold its first Shrove Tuesday Feast on Tuesday, Feb. 17, from 5-8 p.m.

This is a family event open to the community, but will require an RSVP: 973-827-5251.

    Free-will donations will be accepted.

The origin of Shrove Tuesday comes from the idea of consuming everything in the household from which one planned to abstain during Lent. Traditionally pancakes were served to connect to the custom of when flour, eggs, milk, butter and other food items were all on the Lenten abstinence list.
