Wantage — A public hearing on a plan to spend about $550,000 for a variety of improvements and repairs in Wantage will be held April 26 at 7 p.m. in the municipal building.

That's when details of the plan to borrow the money and how it would be spent, will be discussed.

The Township Committee passed an ordinance to appropriates the money at a recent meeting. A summary of the ordinance is available at the Wantage town Web site: www.wantagetwp.com. A more detailed breakdown of the plan will be available for no cost at the Clerk’s office beginning Monday, April 16.

The basic breakdown on the spending is as follows:

$230,000 to buy an ambulance and a dump truck for the Department of Public Works. This sum includes related expenses, such as registration and taxes.

The ambulance will be purchased through a contract bid. The bids will be read aloud at a special meeting on April 19 at 10 a.m., also at the Municipal Building. The township will award the contract to lowest bidder.

$224,000 for road repairs to Holland and Lake Neepaulin roads.

$96,000 to improve the DPW garage: new cement floors, a new parking area and the purchase of snow plows.

Also listed in the ordinance is the amount of time that all the repairs and purchases are expected to last. The road repairs and the DPW improvements have a shelf life of 10 years, while the ambulance and the unnamed DPW vehicle are expected to remain in service for five years.

The Wantage Municipal Building is located at 888 Route 23.

Residents should check the township Web site to confirm the date. Postponements or changes will be announced on the site.
