The Sussex County Division of Senior Services will host its annual Older Americans Month celebration on May 15 at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, offering older residents a day of health information, education, entertainment and social connection.

The event, themed “Champion Your Health,” will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Richards Building and will focus on prevention, wellness and personal responsibility as key elements of healthy aging. Organizers said the theme encourages older adults to take an active role in their health by advocating for themselves, accessing preventive care and making informed decisions that support independence.

“This year’s theme is about making choices to support your mind as well as your body,” Lorraine Hentz, deputy county administrator for Sussex County, said in a statement. “Small, consistent actions, from preventative care to staying socially connected, can help people maintain their health and independence as they age.”

Registration is required because space is limited. The cost is $8 per person for registrations received by May 11 and $12 afterward. Checks should be made payable to the Senior Services Trust Fund and mailed to the division at One Spring Street in Newton.

For more information, residents may contact the division at 973-579-0555, ext. 1277, or by email at seniorservices@sussex.nj.us.
