Vernon. Diane Wexler has been appointed to fill an unexpired term on the Municipal Environmental Commission. She will also chair the volunteer commission. She will serve until Dec. 31, 2021. She will fill the spot formerly occupied by Cara Brown, who resigned. “I chose to appoint her because she brings a significant amount of important experience to this commission,” said Mayor Howard Burrell of Wexler at the township’s Aug. 24 meeting. Wexler served on the environmental commission from 2011 to 2016 and as its liaison to the Municipal Land Use Board. She also currently serves on the Sussex County Vocational Technical School’s Board of Education, and for the past three years has served as that board’s vice president, Burrell said. Burrell thanked Brown for her service and said he accepted her resignation “with great regret.” He lauded Brown’s leadership on the commission, to which she brought expertise as a Vernon environmental science teacher, organizer of the Vernon Township High School Eco-Fair and Environmental Education Program at Lounsberry Hollow Middle School from 2006 to 2010. She helped high school students form a chapter of the environmental organization the Green Team. “I wish her good luck, and hope that she will consider serving our town again in some capacity,” Burrell said.
