VERNON — As a fundraiser for The Burn Center at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, about 43 teams of firefighters came to Mountain Creek last Friday.
The event drew teams from across the state although the Vernon Fire Department’s team was the only one representing Sussex County. The Vernon team completed the course in 48.34 seconds plus a 5-second addition for a race irregularity. This year's races marked the 28th anniversary of the event.
The race was held at the bottom of the Kamikaze expert slope and the steepness of the racecourse caught some of the teams off guard. Of the 43 teams that raced, only 39 successfully completed the course.
