First Aid Squad proposes CPR training

Wantage Township First Aid Squad First Lieutenant Michael Puskas revealed on Nov. 12 the squad would like to make Wantage a “heart” friendly community by offering Basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training to the public.

On Sunday, the squad had its first CPR training, where they offered hands on instruction. Puskas said it takes the squad about 10 to 12 minutes to get on scene. After 10 minutes without blood, brain tissue dies, so the more people in Wantage Township who are trained in compressions, the more lives that will be saved.

Puskas also said that one in three will die from cardiovascular disease. The township receives 700-800 calls in a year, covering 68 square miles, with 12,000 residents. Typically, they receive 2-3 CPR calls per year.
