Former Sussex mayor upset about mess at tree-lighting area
SUSSEX — Former mayor Katherine Little told the Borough Council on Dec. 3 about the huge mess she cleaned up near the area of the borough's tree lighting.
She said garbage, corn stalks and ribbons were strewn all over the area on Dec. 1.
She said she was extremely upset because the workers involved in a local cleaning agreement between Hardyston and Sussex Borough were on vacation. Little stated that they should have made sure someone else was covering their duties.
"If people put up ribbons on poles, they should take down what they put up," Little said. "If not, the Department of Pulic Works needs to take responsibility."
After the meeting, Little said people should take pride in taking care of the borough.
The Wantage Grange
Also after the meeting, Little spoke of the local Wantage Grange, a volunteer group organized by farmers. She said not everyone was a farmer at the beginning. Some people crocheted and others grew African violets.
The Grange is in need of members and it needs young people because the Grange needs help with fundraisers.
Little said she keeps pushing forward, and she would hate to see it go under.
The members from the Grange brought canned food to their annual dinner Dec. 11 for the Sussex Help Center.
Also of consequence, she informed said there are many opportunities for people to serve the community. Possibilities exist to volunteer on the Recreation Board, the Board of Health, and also the Planning Board.
