Friends of animal shelter raising money
WANTAGE — The Wantage Animal Shleter has raised $3,000 so far in its effort to expand the dog pounds.
Lynn Neagle, founder of the Friends of Wantage Animal Shelter gave the update at last Thursday's Mayor and Committee meeting. Neagle also introduced about five other members to the council.
She said the Friends have about 10 members and as of November, the group has had three fundraisers, which include a craft fair and Zumba. The group hopes to raise $10,000 per year.
The group's next goal is to have a feasibility study done to determine what it would like to add and renovate at the current structure, as part of the Wantage Pound Expansion.
The Friends of Wantage Animal Shelter will meet in a regrouping meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 8 to determine its next steps. They are considering possibilities of a dinner dance, spring flea market and having a presence at county and state fairs.
Mayor Ronald Bassani said they may want to join Wantage day and write letters to the editor.
Neagle said a pro bono website for the Friends of the Wantage Animal Shelter NJ is being developed with an “About Us” page being completed so far.
