Hardyston renews transportation contract with county

The Hardyston Township Council renewed an agreement on Dec. 30 with Sussex County to continue providing additional transportation to the township, in particular to Stockholm residents.

The county provides loop transportations to the whole county, but Stockholm’s location is problematic, township officials say.

“Because Stockholm is for far out of the beaten path for the loops, those residents don’t really get bus service,” township manager Marianne Smith said.

Because of this, the township approved a renewed independent arrangement for residents, seniors and disabled, who can call and arrange for door-to-door trips to doctor’s visits and other essential services.

The standing arrangement is a $17,000 per year contract with a per-trip cost of about $14 for residents.

    Animal control contract renewed

Wantage will continue to provide animal control services to Hardyston after the township council renewed the contract for a year.

Wantage has been a longstanding provider of both animal control services and pound services to Hardyston Township, a relationship which township manager Marianne Smith refers to as both “favorable and enviable.”
