HARDYSTON — Four 5th grade girls — Gianna Perez, Nadine Boukhari, Hiba Shaikh, and Elita Buffa — wanted to do something to help those stricken with cancer.

Some even have family members dealing with this illness.

During the week of Feb. 24, the girls made posters and went to every homeroom to talk about their “Dress Up for the Fight” day to raise money to donate to the American Cancer Society for cancer research. They collected pocket change during lunch time. Students were able to donate to dress up on Friday, Feb. 28, and fill out a ticket to be chosen to wear a corsage or boutonniere for the dress up day.

About $300 in donations were raised.
