High Point Regional High School students Francesca Gualano and Allison Stapel will hold a STEM program at Lafayette Middle School to help promote the HPRHS Science Activity Faire on June 13, 9 a.m. until noon.

Gulano explained the light emission when burning chemicals and the relationship to pyrotechnics and fireworks. Stapel then demonstrated the effects of a catalyst on a reaction to produce a foaming reaction referred to as "Elephant Toothpaste."

The Science Activity Faire is sponsored by the Science National Honor Society in an effort to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics to young children. The activities faire is free and open to the public.

"We wanted to hold an event at High Point Regional High School that would be hands on and fun," Gualano said. "We want kids to experience science and be encourage to learn more science."

Students have been coordinating the event with SNHS advisor Madelaine Travaille and industry partners such as Picatinny Arsenal and the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Northern New Jersey chapter. Kids will be able to extract their own DNA, conduct chemistry experiments, create projects with recycled materials, drive and race robots in the obstacle course, paint with natural dyes, fly gliders, learn how to design an object to 3D print, create a terrarium environment, participate in a quiz bowl competition and meet scientist and engineers from the our community.

Children will be taught and guided by High Point students and will be able to create and take home their projects. ""It's going to be fun and exciting for kids of all ages," Allison Stapel said.

Parents should register their children to ensure that they will be able to participate on June 13. Please register online at http://goo.gl/forms/X5TIkWZBqY to secure your spot at your selected activities.
