VERNON — The 300-member Holy Counselor Lutheran Church founded in 1967 and led by the Rev. Christopher Bruesehoff, kicked-off a single celebration that combined the 50th anniversary of the congregation and the 500th anniversary of the Reformation.
On the eve of All Saints Day 1517, Martin Luther posted his 95 theses on the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church in Germany. He was calling for a debate over scriptural and theological matters related to forgiveness, leadership and the way the Bible was used in the church and at home. The end result would be the Protestant Reformation.
On Oct. 29, the Holy Counselor Lutheran Church congregation celebrated the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and the 50th anniversary of their Church founding, during their worship service at 10 a.m.
After the service, a time of food, fellowship, music, and fun was held at St. Francis de Sales, located at 614 McAfee Glenwood Road, Vernon, NJ 07462, for the celebration. During the event donations were received for Lutheran Disaster Response’s Hurricane Relief Fund and the Vernon Clergy Fund.
Holy Counselor holds regular Sunday services, at 8:30 and 10:30 am, with Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. Bible study meets on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
