Mountain Creek embraces early snowfall, snowmaking

VERNON — Mountain Creek has announced Vernon Peak, South Peak and DropZone Snowtubing opened for the winter season on Saturday, Dec. 14 with full base-area services, including group and private lessons, equipment rentals and slope-side dining.

Ski resorts across the country have welcomed early-season snowfall and arctic blasts; celebrating historic openings and bringing smiles to winter snow sport enthusiasts eager to hit the slopes. Mountain Creek celebrated its earliest opening in 30 years on Nov. 30 with two weekends of lift-served turns on Sugar Slope and a feature-packed Jib Park in the Vernon Base Area.

“The season is off to a great start,” enthused Hugh Reynolds, director of marketing. “We’ve been able to blend Mother Nature’s efforts with our own machine-made snow to deliver some great early-season turns to our guests.”

As another winter storm tracks towards the Northeast this weekend, the Resort’s dedicated snowmakers are working to transform the mountain into a snow-covered winter wonderland and expand terrain quickly in anticipation of the Christmas holidays.

“With natural snowfall and optimal snowmaking in the forecast, we’re expecting the best holiday conditions in years,” said Kent Graham, General Manager.

Vernon Peak and South Peak opened Saturday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and DropZone Snowtubing operated Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Guest Services will be open for Season Pass, Triple Play, Kids Play and gift card sales.
