Mountain Creek holds annual Snow Plow Luau
VERNON — Under cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-30s, Mountain Creek’s annual Snow Plow Luau and Pond Skim offered a good time to all, with the possible exception of those who failed to successfully cross the manmade pond.
Sunday afternoon started with a ski ballet demonstration by Kenny Powell, which was immediately followed by a costume parade down Sugar Slope. Then the daring skiers and snowboarders lined up for the chance to cross the pond. At least six made the crossing without incident, while dozens more learned about the pearils of having been a passenger on the R.M.S. Titanic. Of those, many were able to escape the near freezing water on their own, while some required the help of the lifeguard staff that was attentively on hand for potential emergencies.
Prizes were awarded for the best crossings, male and female, as well as for the most spectacular crashes. Of the nearly 100 bystanders, only a few dozen got to experience the thrill of being doused with the splashing byproduct of defeat.
