Members of the Vernon Township High School National Honor Society are wrapping up their tie-dyed T-shirt drive to raise funds for the Bennett family.
Janice Bennett, a staff member at the high school, died last year of colon cancer and left behind three sons. John, who graduated high school in June, is an artist and designed a touching graphic to represent his mother.
The shirts that were leftover have been tie-dyed this summer by Vernon graduate T.J. Cummins (‘12) and have proven very popular.
Shirts sell for $10 and can be ordered by contacting Kweyant@vtsd.com.
The NHS members are also running an emergency blood drive in October that is for students and staff only. They run two blood drives a year and generally collect 100 pints of blood each time. The same day of the blood drive is an emergency food drive for two local pantries that are in need of food. Two of the NHS members help to operate these local pantries and asked for some help.
The student body is being encouraged to donate with an array of colorful prizes, including glow-in-the-dark fangs for any student who brings in five non-perishable food items.
The NHS will also join with the Key Club to hold a silver and gold fundraiser for the Larmer family, Nov. 15 and 16 event where donations of gold or silver people no longer want can be cashed in, while helping a local family who needs some support.
