Pochuck Valley Farm recreates Civil War

Last weekend the smell of muskets filled the air in the lower orchards of Pochuck Valley Farms offered special afternoons as they hosted the New Jersey 27th Regiment Company F. Across from the store on Route 517 in the Glenwood section of Vernon, an encampment was set up to greet and educate visitors.
The reenactment included a memorial service at Glenwood Cemetery, skirmishes in the apple orchards across the roadway from the farm, and even a talk with General Grant as he plans his upcoming strategy for battles against the Confederate Army.
The weekend also offered demo military drills and campfire cooking. The event was the work of John Covert. Convert is a descendant of Glenwood resident Captain Bailey, who actually led Union troops in the Civil War starting in 1862.
Throughout October the farm is still offering apple picking up on the mountain. Their homemade apple cider is still. Pochuck Valley Farms Market & Deli is located at 962 Route 517 (McAfee-Glenwood Road) Glenwood. You can also reach them by calling 973-764-4732 or visit their Website at www.pochuckvalleyfarms.com.
