SCARC’s Harvest Home foods serves the community
HAMPTON TOWNSHIP — SCARC’s Harvest Home Foods programs in Hampton Township and Ogdensburg are serving needy community members with food donations.
As Sussex County’s largest food pantry, Harvest Home Foods distributes food to over 800 families per month.
SCARC’s Harvest Home Foods program is one of eight day programs for adults with developmental disabilities in Sussex County.
The program obtains food from the NORWESCAP Food Bank in Phillipsburg.
Additional food is received from the USDA Government Surplus Food program and private donations and food drives from clubs and individuals in Sussex County,
In October, 2012, the Harvest Home Foods programs served over 834 recipients many of whom live in the Newton area.
In 2011-2012, the Harvest Home Foods programs distributed 84,777 pounds of food to its needy recipients.
In addition, the volunteers at Harvest Home Foods assist in the delivery of Meals on Wheels to shut-ins, seniors, and other needy families.
The Harvest Home Foods program provides meaningful day activities to adult volunteers with developmental disabilities who choose community integration and one-on-one involvement with food recipients. The Harvest home Foods program provides food for individuals who come to both food locations to pick up food, as well as, volunteers delivering food to shut-ins, seniors, and needy people at home.
The locations of the Harvest Home Foods programs are at: 338 Main Street, Ogdensburg and 4 Camre Drive in Hampton Township.
The Harvest Home Foods program utilizes the volunteer efforts of 30 adults with disabilities and seven trained SCARC staff.
The Food program partners with several Sussex County agencies including the American Red Cross, DASI, Project Self Sufficiency, Division of Youth and Family Services, Department of Social Services, local schools and churches.
Sponsors of food drives on behalf of Harvest Home Foods includes: Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, Project KEEP, ShopRite Partners in Caring, Pass It Along, US Postal Service, and United Way of Northern New Jersey.
