VERNON — Although it was still quite cold and damp, Saturday afternoon at the annual Blessing of the Animals held at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church was still a success.

About a dozen humans along with their dogs came out to be blessed by the Rev. Dr. Howard W. Whitaker. Treats were available for the canines although many of them seemed to excited to take a nibble. According to Whitaker,

“There are two models in this world for unconditional love. One is God," Whitaker said. "The other is a good dog.” The annual event commemorates the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi.
