SUSSEX — The Sussex Borough Council unanimously agreed to receive more than $119,000 of outstanding taxes, water and sewer charges at its Jan. 21 meeting, satisfying the borough's liens and claims.
The Council also unanimously agreed to waive $3,141.28, of accumulated interest, at the rate of 18 percent.
At his first meeting, new Borough Attorney Francis J. McGovern said the interest accumulated from the Department of Transportation v. Sussex Inn case judgment date to the Borough’s meeting on the Jan. 21. He recommended waiving the interest because it would cost more to recoup the interest.
Judge Thomas L. Weisenbeck's judgment came down on Dec. 17, 2013 and the borough received the owed money.
