Vernon holds annual tree lighting

Hundreds of residents turned out for the township's annual tree lighting event at the Vernon Township Fire Depart. on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Fire engines were removed from their bays so those who braved the chilly air could be warmer and not as concerned about changes in the weather. Many more visitors remained outside between the firehouse and the lighted evergreen along the side of Route 515 in the town center. Police cruisers closed both ends of Main Street and Guthrie Road to make pedestrians safer as they walked from distant parking spaces.

Performers at the holiday celebration included the Lounsberry Hollow Middle School Choir, the Vernon High School Brass Choir, the Community Choral Society, and the Vernon Township High School Meistersingers.

Free pastries and hot chocolate were available as well.
