Vernon student, teacher play for veterans

VERNON — Chris Brune played saxophone and Maya Rakoczy was on piano played at Veterans Hospital, at Castle Point Campus, Wappingers Falls, N.Y., on Sunday, Sept 26.
The two were honoring the Veterans for service to our country. Chris and Maya played �"Autumn in New York" by Vernon Duke, and Brune played a range of pieces with an ensemble that included Music Therapist Kristen Stewart and Recreation Director Marty Gomes.
On June 22, 2014, Rakoczy also provided piano accompaniment for a program that re-created the atmosphere of a World War II USO Canteen at the Castle Point VA hospital. The project was conceived and carried out by Stewart and featured music typical of the era by Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, The Andrews Sisters, Judy Garland, and Benny Goodman.
Rakoczy is a sophomore at Vernon Township High School and a piano student of Joann DiGiulio of Vernon. Brune is a resident of Glenwood and a teacher of clarinet and guitar.
