Vernon Township High School Advanced Placement History Teachers Guy Della Torre, Matthew Trokan and Kelsey Falkowski unveiled a gift to the VTHS Library. On hand to receive the gift was the library’s media specialist, Stephen Denn.
The gift, a donation from the trio, was a copy of former President George W. Bush’s new bestselling book, Portraits of Courage. Bush’s book, which is described as “a vibrant collection of oil paintings and stories by President George W. Bush honoring the sacrifice and courage of America’s military veterans,” has been celebrated by serious critics and popular audiences alike as one of the former President’s greatest accomplishments.
“It’s great to be able to have an homage like this to America’s heroes in our school’s very own library,” Falkowski said.
The three history teachers all stated that it was their goal to provide students with more examples of modern, everyday heroes and role models who have been doing great things for the country and that they saw Bush’s book as the perfect avenue by which to do this.
The book will be on display in the library for students to check out and discover and be inspired by the stories of great American heroes.
