VTHS musician wins soloist competition

Vernon. Wesley Sanders, a senior tuba player at Vernon Township High school won the New Jersey Wind Symphony 2022 Youth Soloist Competition.

Wesley Sanders, a senior tuba player at Vernon Township High School, is the winner of the New Jersey Wind Symphony 2022 Youth Soloist Competition.

He is a well-rounded musician, acting as the principal tubist of his school’s Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, and Brass Choir, as well as playing bass trombone in his high school’s Jazz Band and Pit Orchestra. Mr. Sanders has successfully auditioned for and served as principal tubist of multiple honors ensembles throughout his high school tenure, including the Sussex County Honors Band, North Jersey Area Wind Ensemble, North Jersey Region I Wind Ensemble, New Jersey All-State Orchestra, and the New Jersey All-State Wind Ensemble. Most recently, he was the recipient of the 2022 New Jersey All State Governor’s Award for Band. Mr. Sanders currently studies privately with Barbara Garrison and John Palatucci, and plans to pursue music in college with a minor in tuba performance.

In addition to receiving a scholarship, Mr. Sanders will be performing a solo with the New Jersey Wind Symphony at their upcoming concert at 8:00pm on Friday, May 13th at West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
