Vernon. The Vernon Township School District Board of Education voted on Wednesday, March 18, to move the district's preschool program to the Cedar Mountain school in September.

The program is currently housed in the Walnut Ridge School, but the district currently has a request for proposals out to brokers to list the building for sale or lease.

Business Administrator Steve Kepnes said moving the program to Cedar Mountain will save the district $340,000, which has been built into 2020-21 budget.

Starting next year, all that will be left in the Walnut Ridge school is the administration offices, which house Kepnes, Superintendent Karen D'Avino and Assistant Superintendent Chuck McKay.

Keeping the students in the building would have resulted in a delay should the building sell as it would take time to move the program out of the school.

It's not as hard for the administration.

"If the building sells, we'll be out of there in a week," D'Avino said.
