Wantage approves redevelopment plan's first stage

WANTAGE — The Wantage Township Committee unanimously adopted the Redevelopment Plan for Phase 1 of the Route 23 Redevelopmenet Area on Oct. 8.
Mayor Bill Gaechter said he participated in a fruitful meeting with representatives from Sussex Borough to discuss Payment in Lieu of Taxation details regarding the Redevelopment Area.
Wantage officials later went into executive session to further discuss negotiation details.
Prior to the vote, township resident William Gettler requested Wantage officials put off investing taxpayer money in the redevelopment area because the area is: at a 400-foot elevation, possibly prone to flooding, and the site is under a New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection remediation program because of pollution.
