Wings Asian Fusion Bistro opens in Vernon

A little bit of Manhattan has been brought to the country as Wings Asian Fusion Bistro is hoping to be the newest, hottest restaurant in Vernon.

Owner Kingo Wong felt Vernon was lacking a nice Asian restaurant. After two months of renovations with little expense spared, Wings was born.

As guests walk through the door they are greeted by a giant Buddha and hostess, Sheena is there with a warm smile. Inside the dining area, a 27 foot fish waterfall — designed with rocks gathered by the owner — was the vision of Wong.

The Vernon location is the fourth Wings Asian Fusion Bistro — others are located in Manhattan, Staten Island and Connecticut. However, the menu is unique to the area.

The menu is created “for the people of Vernon,” says Wong.

His sauces are all homemade and free of MSG. The fish is delivered daily and Wong describes “fusion” as being nice quality, healthy sauces.

Many of the food prepared at Wings come from or is prepared from a native source.

The sushi is prepared by a chef from Japan and the presentation has guests taking pictures of his creations. The Crazy Friday sushi roll is one of the best sellers.

The Thai food is prepared by a chef from Thailand and the green tea is sent from Japan.

The menu is extensive offering everything from Tuna Wasabi Dumplings to the Red Curry Sea bass to Pineapple Fried Rice.

“We treat our guests like family," said Wong. "We only give our family the best."

Wings opened their doors at 281 Route 94 in Vernon on Jan. 1, but because of the freezing temperatures, pipes froze and forced the restaurant to close. They reopened Jan. 13. Recently, the Mayor of Vernon visited the establishment and gave two thumbs up.

“The food is great. It’s clean and the service is also great. I definitely recommend eating at Wings,” said Meghan Gorman, a Vernon resident who recently patronized the restaurant.

An official grand opening celebration will be scheduled in the future.

Reservations for parties of six or more can be made by calling 973-827-6688. Wings is open Monday to Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.; Friday and Saturday 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday noon to 10 p.m.
