More monthly parking spots up for grabs

SUSSEX — With tight parking on Main Street, the borough is looking at alternatives to create additional spaces for business owners and residents around town. A few months ago, the borough officially opened a parking lot on Harrison Street and made nine monthly permit parking spots available to residents there. But so far, only two residents have stepped up to apply for permit parking at a cost of $25 a month. At the council’s March 3 meeting, Councilman Frank Dykstra suggested making the other seven permit parking spots available to business owners and other nearby residents. “I don’t see (Harrison Street residents) flocking in for these spots,” said Dykstra. The council decided to follow through on his suggestion. But first, Harrison Street residents get 30 day to apply for permit parking before it’s made available to others on a first-come, first-served basis.
