New school for some youngsters

Vernon — As of September 2009, all students in second through fourth grade from Vernon Valley Lakes and Rudetown will be attending Cedar Mountain Primary School instead of Rolling Hills Primary School. The move, intended to balance out the populations of the two elementary schools, will only affect eight students this year, but is anticipated to affect at least 12 more in the following year. Even though Rolling Hills is the larger school, the population is also growing faster than Cedar Mountain’s leading to this small redistricting that Superintendent Anthony Macerino called “a reasoned attempt to bring balance to the schools.” According to the district’s business administrator James Kepnes, this may also reduce the school bus time for some of the students in this area.
