Newton police arrest Hardyston man

    On Sunday, May 31 at 12:05 a.m., Newton Police were summoned to the Newton Exxon to investigate a report of a male who had reportedly pointed a gun at another male in the area of the Exxon parking lot. Shortly thereafter, Christopher Hoyer, age 22, unemployed, of Witts End Drive, Hardyston, was identified as the actor. He was located within an apartment at 62 Water St., Newton and found to be in possession of a black CO2 powered air pistol. Subsequent investigation and an interview of the victim, Joseph Colon, age 18, of Newton revealed that Hoyer had brandished the Powerline Model 15XT BB .177 caliber handgun and pointed it at Colon while threatening to kill him after the two became involved in a dispute involving Hoyer’s girlfriend. As a result, Hoyer was arrested and charged with the following offenses: Possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose; terroristic threats; Hoyer was processed and lodged in the Sussex County in default of $57,500 bail. The case is pending an appearance in Newton Municipal Court.
