No children visitors allowed at NMH

NEWTON - Newton Memorial Hospital on Tuesday altered its visitor’s policy in light of the prevalence of the H1N1 virus in the community. “H1N1 is highly contagious and is reaching epidemic proportions in our community,” said David Lazarus, M.D., Newton Memorial Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Affairs. “In order to avoid spreading this infection to our patients within the hospital, children under the age of 18 are not allowed in patient care areas. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your cooperation.” Newton Memorial Hospital is following existing protocols to limit the spread of H1N1. The Hospital is working closely with, and following the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control, the state Department of Health and Senior Services and the county Division of Health to ensure patient safety in light of the prevalence of H1N1 influenza.
