The Cinco de Mayo 5K Run/Walk surprised organizers who’d registered just 117 people ages 6 to 80 for the fundraiser. On the morning of the race, 175 people turned out to compete, thanks to the positive turn in the weather. Runners were treated to a cool, dry morning Saturday, despite the earlier prediction of rain. That helped push the tally to more than $2,000 raised from the May 2 race at Olde Lafayette Village, according to Andy Antanaitis, one of the organizers. The race was sponsored by the Lafayette Education Advancement Foundation, known as LEAF, a nonprofit that raises money to fund programs at the Lafayette School.
