“Take a hike” is this year’s motto at Cedar Mountain School. Second-grade teacher Debbie Baumgarten, fourth-grade teacher Terry Griffin and Cedar Mountain’s school principal Maureen McCall attended a weeklong conference this summer sponsored by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. The conference offered ideas to get students outside, using the Appalachian Trail as a backdrop. Cedar Mountain’s first Family Night, held Sept. 23, included outdoor activities, some Trail history and hiking safety tips. On Sept. 30 members of the Cedar Mountain community gathered with over 70 family members for a spirited hike on the boardwalk portion of the Appalachian Trail in Vernon. Everyone was encouraged to continue incorporating more outdoor activities into their lives. Photos provided
