Parade and party celebrate Hamburg Fire Department's 100th anniversary
The town hosts Sussex County Firemen's Inspection Day event; check for road closures Hamburg - The streets of Hamburg will come alive with festivity Saturday, Oct. 3, as Hamburg Fire Department hosts the Sussex County Firemen's Inspection Day Parade starting at 1 p.m. The parade is one highlight of the year-long celebration of the Fire Department's 100th anniversary. Parade line-up begins at noon, when the Hamburg Fire Department, dignitaries, bands and guest firefighters will assemble their march on the following streets: State Street, Bank Street and Summit Street. The parade route will be as follows: Route 23 North onto Main Street; right onto Route 94 North; left onto Wallkill Avenue, marching past the Hamburg Firehouse and ending in front of Accurate Forming. A number of roads will be closed. Road closures will be as follows: For Hamburg Village residents: At noon, Route 23 will be closed to all traffic north and south bound at Village Drive. Local residents will be able to exit Village Drive and go across through the shopping mall parking lot to exit to Wheatsworth Road. No one will be able to enter into Village Dive until the parade has ended. Other Road Closures: Route 23 will be closed both north- and southbound until the end of the parade. Firefighters say they hope to have it reopened to traffic no later than 4 p.m. In addition, some roads will have "No Parking" signs, by the order of the Hamburg Police that weekend. Roads will be closed off due to the parade route, under permit from NJ DOT. Detours will be set. Reopening will be decided by Hamburg's Police Chief Jan Wright. An afternoon of celebration While townspeople and neighbors come out to the parade, the police ask everyone to be patient with the road closures and to have a good time celebrating 100 years of Hamburg Fire Department serving the people of the community. The celebration will continue with food, beverages, a hose laying event and trophies for "Best in the Parade." After the parade, The Hamburg Fire Department will be sell "100 Year Anniversary" T-shirts at $15 apiece and plastic mugs at $5 each, beginning at 5 p.m.
