Musical family offers more programs throughout the county McAfee — Margaret and Ed Korczynski, owners of the Sussex County Music Workshop are celebrating 30 years of teaching piano at their studio in McAfee by expanding their musical offerings. The business, with locations in McAfee, Sparta and Glenwood, will now be offering instruction in violin, cello, voice, guitar, woodwinds and brass, in addition to piano. The Korczynskis are members of the North Jersey Piano Teachers Association and of the National Guild of Musicians based in Austin, Texas. Margaret has served as the coordinator of the organization for the northern NJ auditions for the last 15 years. Each year the guild holds piano auditions nationally, and provides judges to evaluate the participating piano students. Students of SCMW participate in periodically held master classes and in annual recitals sponsored by the school. Many participate in various competitions and music festivals, among them the Sussex County Music Competition and the Walter Engel Festival of Young Performers. In addition, both the students and teachers have been involved in various community functions: performing in senior citizen homes, raising money for local school programs, playing for special ed classes and playing for religious services. “Sharing the gift of music gives the students a great sense of accomplishment, especially after devoting extended periods of time developing their skills,” she said. Expanding services Their business continues to develop the services it offers. In addition to piano lessons in the McAfee studio, piano and violin are offered in the Sparta studio of John and Sasha Korczynski; instruction is offered through after-school programs and in-school programs at The Immaculate Conception School in Franklin, St. Joseph School in Newton, St. Stephen School in Warwick and the Calvary Christian School, also in Warwick. Margaret also teaches an early music enrichment program at the studio in McAfee, Footprints Montessori School in Vernon and at the Calvary Christian Academy in Warwick. This program is designed to introduce music to young children. A Mom & Me program for children from 2 and one half to 3 years old, and a Primer program for 4- and 5-year-old children instills the joy of music through various methods, including the use of rhythm, movement and playing simple percussion instruments.
