RL Brennan sent this comment via the Internet about our page one story last week on Wantage Township’s receipt of a grant for $150,000 to hire a consultant to help the township decide whether it should purchase the Sussex Airport. It is important for the general public to recognize the significant advantages of having a local airport. The airport brings active cash flow into the area, with both business and recreational activity. Local resorts profit from an airport “gateway” attracting visitors to come here, spend time & money, and further add to local tax revenue. From an active pilot & aircraft owner perspective, Sussex Airport is a local gem. Sussex Airport was an important factor in my company’s decision to locate here in Sussex County. Our company purchases, employee jobs, residences and taxes support this local economy. Our single engine, 4 place aircraft makes it possible for us to quickly & efficiently service our clients with in a 500-mile radius. Our routine purchases at the airport include rental space, radio & avionics service, engine/airframe mechanical service, pilot supplies and aviation fuel (when available). We hope the town council and the selected project consultant actively engages the local pilot population for comments and suggestions during the evaluation period.
