HAMBURG — A motorcycle Rally for Lou Cimaglia will be held on Sunday, Oct. 11 at the Hamburg Fire pavilion on Route 23 in Hamburg. In the 10 months since Cimaglia’s horrific motorcycle accident, his friends and family have watched him go through a great deal. After leaving the hospital, Cimaglia was at The Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in Chester until insurance matters caused his release. Cimaglia has been in the care of his family since this past April at his home in Vernon. Habitat for Humanity was involved in a total remodel of the lower level of the Cimaglia home in order to create a wheelchair accessible environment that allows his family to care for him. Although he has made remarkable progress, Cimaglia remains only semi-responsive and in dire need of both physical and occupational therapy. Susan Cutter, Cimaglia’s co-worker and close friend, recently saw an article in Parade Magazine entitled “Can Brains Be Saved” by Lee Woodruff (published; 07/12/09) that inspired her to begin organizing a motorcycle rally to help raise funds for Cimaglia’s therapy needs. The article stresses the importance of intense physical/occupational therapy as soon as possible after sever brain trauma. The groundbreaking work that is being done with patients suffering from traumatic brain injury is something all of his supporters would like to see Cimaglia benefit from.
