Reader bemoans firing of Sussex Middle School administrators

I would like to concur with the feelings expressed last week by Diane Snure in her letter to the editor. It was the saddest day for students and parents alike when these wonderful administrators (Mrs. Touw and Mrs. Haight) were let go. It was no secret to parents that there was a group of teachers at the school who were trying desperately to turn parents against Mrs. Touw from her first day as principal. Mrs. Touw was the only principal in many years at the school who could keep control of the student body while at the same time treating the students with dignity and respect. This was the first year since I have had children in the school, that one of them wasn’t recounting some indignity that they were made to endure on a daily basis. Once again, the inmates are running the asylum. I am tired of the politics gone bad in this district. The teachers union is once again running the show. We have a BOE who with the exception of Mr. Jacobs were put in place by that very same union. Do not expect them to act with the best interests of the students. I strongly suggest that parents pay close attention to the goings on at the Middle School. If your child(ren) is not being treated appropriately do take the matter up the chain of command but do not stop there if you are not satisfied. That’s what lawyers are for. No doubt we will once again be getting a principal who will not set the bar too high for some of the staff who are not willing to give their all for our children. I again join with the parents of years prior to Mrs. Touw and Mrs. Haight and those after them when I give the Sussex Middle School parents motto: “I can’t wait until my kids are out of this district!” If I had a dollar for every time I have heard a parent say this over the years!
