Vernon Township’s annual Fishing Derby on Saturday, May 16 was a day of free fun for all the community. Over 100 children fished for catfish, sunfish and trout and competed for prizes and trophies. Winners in the age category up to second-grade: Biggest catch: 1st place: Jacqueline Slate, with a 16-1/2 inch trout 2nd place: Philip LeRoy, with a 12-1/4 inch bass Smallest catch: Megan Hertlein, with a 4-1/4 inch sunfish Most fish caught: Cara Davies and Caleb Mahoney tied. Each caught eight fish Winners in the third- through sixth-grade category: Biggest catch: 1st place: Michael Stefkovich, with an 11-1/8 inch bass 2nd place: Abbie Goodrich, with a 7-1/4 inch catfish and Ashley Ullman, with a 6-3/4 inch catfish Smallest catch: Angelica Gonzales, with a 3-1/2 inch sunfish Most fish caught: 1st place: Colin Conklin, who caught 44 fish 2nd place: Haley Lazier, who caught 33 fish
