SUSSEX - U.S. Congressman E. Scott Garrett addressed civics students Dec. 2 at his alma mater, High Point Regional High School. Garrett, a Wantage resident, spoke to the group of High Point seniors about his lengthy career in public office and the challenges of representing the needs of the Fifth Congressional District in the U.S. Congress. “In a democracy, compromise is an essential aspect of making laws,” said Rep. Garrett. “It’s a continual challenge to pursue the legislative needs of my constituents and stay true to my political beliefs.” Elise McEvoy, a member of High Point’s student council - a group Garrett belonged to as a student at the Wantage school in the 1970s - said she “really enjoyed” the class. “It was nice of Rep. Garrett to come back to his old school and speak to us,” said McEvoy. “I learned some interesting things about Congress.”
