Rescue Round-Up

Mylestone Equine Rescue On Sunday, October 11 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. (rain date: October 18th), stop by Mylestone Equine Rescue’s farm (227 Still Valley Road, Phillipsburg) and meet their friendly rescue horses. A variety of silent auction baskets will be available along with bake sale items. A number of vendors will also be on hand, including local children’s author Diana Tuorto (http://cayuse.8k.com), who will be signing her three middle-grade horse novels. Fifty percent of proceeds will benefit MER. For more information, please visit www.mylestone.org or call 908-995-9300. Please note that the MER farm is also a private residence, so if you can’t make the open house, but would like to meet the horses, call ahead to set up an appointment. Under My Wing Avian Refuge Under My Wing Avian Refuge is a permanent home to more than 130 exotic birds, from parakeets to macaws. They currently have a waiting list of 15 birds, but have no room for proper quarantine. Their need to move is on a timely schedule to meet township requirements. While farmland is very expensive, the need to purchase property and relocate the bird refuge is imperative. The refuge is in the process of purchasing a Sussex County property that offers acreage with a barn and outdoor buildings, which can be renovated to suit the birds’ needs. At this location, relinquished, unwanted, and physically challenged parrots will have the opportunity to live a life that they deserve. To make a donation towards Under My Wing Avian Refuge’s new facility, visit www.exoticbirdsrefuge.org/donate.html Donations can also be mailed to: Under My Wing Avian Refuge - Building Fund P.O. Box 233 Franklin, NJ 07416 For more information about Under My Wing Avian Refuge, or to inquire about volunteer opportunities, please call 973-827-1777 or visit www.exoticbirdsrefuge.org. BARKS Dude is an adorable orange kitty who has been waiting patiently for a home for a long time. He’s a low-key guy who seems to get overlooked when people come to visit. To meet Dude and see if he’s the right match for you, please contact his foster mom at 973-383-8385. BARKS’ semi-annual garage sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 17 and 18 at Wild West City (50 Lackawanna Drive, Stanhope). For more information on BARKS’ other animals and garage sale, please visit www.barksinc.com or call 973-300-3185.
