Vernon — Zach Maher, a student at Vernon High School, has been named a finalist in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program, a distinction that is awarded to only 15,000 of the top scorers on the PSAT. Three Vernon High students have been named Commended Students in the same program. Ashley Vogt, Nicholas Walsh and Sean Flynn placed among the top 5 percent of students who sat for the test as sophomores.
