Ogdensburg — Girl Scouts celebrated their 97th birthday on March 12, beginning the three-year countdown to the Girl Scout centennial. To help celebrate, Girl Scouts from Sparta and Ogdensburg attended the town council meetings in both towns to hear their mayors read a proclamation declaring March 8 to 14, as Girl Scout Week. The first Girl Scout meeting was held in Savannah, Ga. on March 12, 1912 when the founder, Juliette Gordon Low, registered the first 18 Girl Scouts. Today there are more than 3 million Girls Scouts in the United States.
