Franklin — Members of Girl Scout Troop 798 worked toward their Silver Awards by collecting used clothing at the Senator Robert E. Littell Community Center in Franklin on Saturday. “Silver award is the second highest award in Girl Scouting,” explained the group’s co-leader Elizabeth Wassel of Hamburg. “This will help the Valerie Fund, an organization supporting children with cancer and blood disorders.” The fund conducts a camp Happytimes in Pennsylvania. “The troop will be putting together toiletry bags for the campers,” said Wassel. “A unique feature of the camp is that the counselors are cancer or blood disorder survivors themselves.” The pile of donated clothing grew steadily until the event ended at 3 p.m. Wassel shares leadership duty with Dale Lowcher of Hardyston.
